Are you looking for a comfortable e-bike that is perfect for zipping through the city? Well, you might have found it with the Heybike Cityrun. While this e-bike doesnโt necessarily break the mold in terms of spec (it doesnโt have a high maximum speed), it has been designed for those who want a comfortable way to get themselves to work/the store. In fact, this may well be one of the most comfortable commuter bikes weโve ever ridden. We canโt wait to tell you all about it in this Heybike Cityrun e-bike review.
Who is the Heybike Cityrun E-Bike For?
This is purely a commuter bike. It is for those who will be spending their time riding on paved surfaces. While we are sure it might do a good job with a bit of light off-roading, it hasnโt been designed for that at all. So, if youโre going to be doing anything other than riding through your town/city, then look elsewhere. If you want an e-bike that will get you to work comfortably, then the Heybike Cityrun E-Bike is just the ticket.
Heybike Cityrun E-Bike Specifications
As with all our reviews, weโll start with the specs. However, we do suggest that you read more of the Heybike Cityrun E-bike review, because the base specs arenโt exactly glittering. There are faster e-bikes on the market, many of which have a greater range. However, we stand by the idea that the Heybike Cityrun E-Bike is the best in its class when it comes to commuter e-bikes.

Heybike Cityrun E-Bike Features
Thereโs a lot to unpack with the Heybike Cityrun E-Bike. So, letโs start unpacking!
Rider Experience
As we said โ the Heybike Cityrun E-Bike is one of the best in its class when youโre looking for a pure commuter bike. Everything about it has been built from the ground up to be suitable for road riding.
Thereโs a 1000W motor at the heart of the e-bike, which should make climbing hills easy, just as well as make the constant stop-start of cycling on the roads that everybody loves (OK, everybody hates). It is a dream to ride. When we were riding it, we couldnโt help but feel that this is an e-bike designed for those who donโt normally ride bikes at all, but who know they want to ride to either make the environment better or do a bit of extra exercise.
Everything about controlling the e-bike is easy (sort of, but more on that soon). You can easily switch between how much pedal assist you want, or you can go full throttle if you donโt feel like pedaling. You can also brake quickly and safely, which is ideal when youโre in bustling cities.
The suspension is far better than it should be on a commuter-focused e-bike too. The hydraulic suspension will absorb the bumps in the road, which can come in handy if you spend too much of your time complaining that your city is doing nothing to eliminate potholes.
All in all โ this bike is awesome.
Maximum Speed
The maximum speed on the e-bike is 21mph. This may not sound like much compared to competing e-bikes on the market, which it isnโt. However, letโs face it, a city bike doesnโt need to go beyond 21mph. Even if it were higher, youโd never get that fast with city riding. So, it is clear that Heybike have tried to trim costs here, which theyโre passing on to the consumer.
Maximum Range
The only thing that weโre slightly irritated about is the fact that the maximum range is just 50 miles. Again, far less than competing e-bikes. In practical terms, youโll probably only get 30-40 miles per charge of the battery. Although, once again, it probably doesnโt matter too much if youโre just commuting to and from work. Most peopleโs daily rides wonโt be over 30 miles, and you can just charge the battery when you get home (takes 3-4 hours).
Rider Comfort
Rider comfort was clearly at the forefront of Heybikeโs mind when building the Cityrun. Once again, this is an e-bike that has been built with non-riders in mind. The seat is heavily padded, which makes multi-mile trips feel luxurious. The frame has a step-thru design, which makes mounting far easier than it should be and, as we said, thereโs an awesome suspension on this thing.
All in all, we donโt think weโve ridden a more comfortable city-focused e-bike. It just feels fantastic.
Extra Features
Heybike has removed some of the accessories that youโd normally find in an e-bike e.g. thereโs no cycling computer included here. However, you do have some cool other features, ones that will make riding in the city easier.
For example โ thereโs an LED headlight that will switch on automatically when it gets dark. The taillight will do the same thing. The taillight is something that is rarely included with e-bikes, so thatโs a nice surprise. It is also one of a few e-bikes built with turn signals, which help with road safety.
You also get some keys to lock the bike up, which is useful if youโre leaving it outside. However, itโs an electric bike, so we wouldnโt really recommend that you do that unless 100% necessary.
App Control
This may be a pro or a con, depending on who you are. Rather than go for the traditional cycle computer, Heybike is using app connectivity instead. So, you download the Heybike app, link your phone up to the bike, and youโre ready to roll. You donโt have to use it, but you lose so much control of the bike if you donโt.
For example, the app will show your speed, routes, bike health, etc. It will also let you lock the bike. The app is perfectly decent, and since youโre using your smartphone, itโll look better than any cycling computer that would have been included. We just wish there were a cycling computer there because we donโt always want to have our phone on the front of the e-bike.
Pros & Cons
The Pros
- Built for city riding
- Comfortable to ride
- LED headlights, taillights, and turn signals are useful.
- Decent range โ for a city bike.
- Easy to mount, thanks to step-thru design.
The Cons
- No cycle computer
- Maximum range means it isnโt really useful beyond commuting.
- Not the most versatile e-bike in the world.
Is the Heybike Cityrun E-Bike For You?
If youโre looking for a commuter-only e-bike that makes riding on the roads easier than ever, then the Heybike Cityrun E-bike is for you. It doesnโt have all the bells and whistles that other e-bikes have, but it is perfect for those that wan to ride into work without it being too difficult. If you want an e-bike that can handle off-roading and epic road trips, you might want to look elsewhere. The Heybike Cityrun is built for one thing and one thing only โ road riding, preferably in larger cities where youโll be stopping and starting on the roads all the time.
