Features of the PHILODO H8 Electric Bike
The PHILODO H8 is absolutely brimming with features. Some of them are staples to electric bikes already, but PHILODO has always done things a little bit ‘better’. This is why we’re quite happy calling the H8 one of the best electric bikes on the market.
You’ll want to pay special attention to this part of the PHILODO H8 review because we’re going to let you in on the pros and cons of the electric bike.
We’ll cover our favorite features of the H8 electric bike here, and let you in on a little bit more information about the PHILODO H8 performance as we do.
Fat Tires
The H8 is a fat tire bike, and the avid cyclists out there will already know this screams ‘trail bike’. Fat tires are amazing at traversing uneven terrain thanks to their amazing ability to be flexible. If you’re doing a lot of trail cycling, particularly in muddy and snowy areas, you’re going to need something like this.
Don’t let that put you off if you’re a city person, though. Oh no. While fat tires aren’t traditionally cycled on the roads, the fat tires on the H8 are capable of tackling them with ease. Sure, the bike is a little bit heavier and harder to pedal uphill in comparison to a thin-tire bike, but hey, it is an electric bike. You probably expected both of those already.
2 x 1,000W Brushless Motors
We don’t think there is a single person out there who will deny that the PHILODO H8 has raw power. Powered by a 1,000W brushless motor on each of the wheels, the H8 will cruise effortlessly when you are in full-powered or assisted mode. Even the steepest of hills will be a breeze for the PHILODO H8.
If you’re going to be putting this bike through its paces on off-road trails, then it will handle like a dream. Challenges that would have been tough to tackle on any other electric bike seem like a quick cycle down the road with the H8. We were in awe at how easily this bike managed to shake off whatever challenges we threw at it. In assisted mode, it was a true joy in every definition of the word. We don’t think we had more fun cycling on an electric bike.
Of course, city riders will be able to feel the power of the electric bike too. You’ll be zipping along like it’s nobody’s business.
Multiple Cycle Modes
The H8 has gone all-out in trying to cater to everybody. As we mentioned earlier, you’ve got three cycle modes here:
- Pedal assist
- Full electric
- Manual
We reckon that most of you are going to be sticking to the pedal assist, just because you want an extra bit of oomph to tackle your cycling challenges. You’ll be pleased to know that there are 5 settings here. Even at one, you’ll really feel the ‘extra’ power, and most people don’t really go beyond that (if they still want a bit of a challenge). Crank this baby up to 5, and you’ll be breezing about everywhere. You’ll not need to work for anything.
If you’re after a leisurely cycle or maybe all-out speed, then turn on the full electric mode. The half-throttle on the handlebar will have you zipping along in no time at all.
Battery died, or do you want a bit of a workout? Switch to manual. Despite the heaviness of the bike, it still manages to perform perfectly well. While we can’t imagine you’ll want to cycle for long periods of time in a manual (due to the sheer size of the battery and the motors), you’ll still enjoy this more than other electric bikes in a manual.
35mph Max Speed
Yep. You read that right. Turn this H8 all the way up, and you’ll be riding a hair-raising 35mph. If you’re riding an electric bike for the first time, prepare to have your mind blown.
Battery & Range
The bike is kitted out with a 48V 22Ah Battery. It is fully waterproof, and you can even hot-swap while the bike is in use. Although, we can’t imagine many people will want to be cycling around with a spare battery.
This bike, in ideal circumstances, should push you to a range of 40-62 miles. However, we find that this range is more for those who are doing some light off-roading or city riding. If you’re putting the bike through its paces, you’ll probably get a touch less than 40. Not much, but still a bit less.
This range is massive, at least for an electric bike. We’ve seen similarly priced bikes that can barely hit 20-30mph, so we can see the H8 being pulled out for those longer cycles or days out on the trails.
Braking System
As anybody who has ever ridden an electric bike can tell you – safety is everything.
People climbing onto an electric bike for the first time don’t expect the raw power they boast, and quite honestly, they end up being terrible at braking. However, this is also on the bike manufacturers too. Not many of them pay attention to their braking systems. PHILODO does.
The PHILODO H8 is equipped with hydraulic brake discs, and they are some of the most responsive we’ve ever seen on an electric bike. Honestly, slowing down sometimes feels like you are just riding manually; it is that smooth.
These hydraulic brake discs are backed up by a brake lever. When the brakes are engaged, the power to the motor is instantly shut off, slowing the bike down even faster.
Basically, this bike is insanely safe, at least by electric bike standards.
Suspension
As anybody who has ever headed out on the trails knows – you need some good suspension. That is just what the H8 offers.
The H8 boasts a lockable suspension, easing the comfort of riding on the bumpiest trails. Seriously, ride this, and you’ll barely feel the bumps and jumps on the roads.
Frame
The frame on this bike is exquisite. A true work of craftsmanship, although all PHILODO bikes are.
It is an 18″ aluminum alloy frame paired with 26″ aluminum alloy rims. It has absolutely beautiful looks, is fantastically durable, and at 78 lbs total weight (including the wheels), is light enough to move about easily.
Pros & Cons
We’ve gone through the specs and the features of the PHILODO H8 Electric Bike, so now we’ll cover the pros and cons. This should help you to decide whether this electric bike is for you, or whether you should be looking elsewhere.
Pros:
- 40mph+ range
- 35mph max speed
- Multiple cycling modes
- Safe braking system
Cons:
- Fat tires are not for everybody
- Can be trickier to assemble
Final Thoughts
If you’re in the market for a good trail electric bike, and one that will perform admirably well on the roads, then it is worth looking at the PHILODO H8. It isn’t a cheap bike, but there is a reason why we are starting to see more and more of these on the trails when we’re out cycling – it is seriously, seriously good.
