The Heybike Explore Electric Bike bucks the recent trend of all launched e-bikes being designed for commuters in mind. While we are sure that people wouldn’t mind hopping on the Heybike Explore and heading to work, this bike is designed to be an off-roader. One of the rare pure off-roading bikes, and it is pretty decent.
In this Heybike Explore Electric Bike review, we’ll take a look at what this e-bike brings to the table and, more importantly, help you to decide whether this is the right e-bike for you (as great as it is, it probably isn’t for everybody).
Who Is the Heybike Explore Electric Bike For?
The Heybike Explore Electric Bike is designed for those who want an off-roading e-bike. Since proper off-road e-bikes are few and far between (most e-bikes are hybrids), the Heybike Explore really stands out from the crowd.
This is a durable bike that can cope with even the toughest of off-road trails. Riding this, you’ll zip over bumps, humps, and all sorts of hills. It has a massive carry capacity too, so you can even bring some cargo along for the ride (the max weight caps out at 400 lbs).
That’s not to say that you can’t use this as a commuter e-bike. You can. It just isn’t really designed for that, and the beefy nature of the Heybike Explore means that it is probably best purely for those who do off-roading, and who may dabble in some commuter riding. It makes no sense to buy this and to never take it off-road. You’ll save money buying another e-bike.

Heybike Explore Electric Bike Features – At a Glance
So, with the specs out of the way, let’s look at what the Heybike Explore offers in a bit more depth. We’ll give you an overview of the ride experience, etc.
Heybike Explore Ride Experience
This e-bike is designed for off-roaders. Everything about this e-bike has been designed to tackle the harsh, bumpy, environments of off-road riding. This means you get a powerful motor, fat tires, shock absorption (in both the front wheel and the seat), and some great brakes.
We’ve ridden the Heybike Explore a lot off-road and let us tell you now – it performs. You’ll be zipping around off-road trails like there’s no tomorrow. It is just so fun to ride, whether you are going full-throttle or have pedal assist turned on.
When you are riding off-road, you need a bike with power to get over some tricky obstacles, and we have been able to do that with the Heybike Explore. You’ll also want something that is responsive so you can navigate the winding trails that many of us ride on. It can do that too. The e-bike is ever so responsive, even at blazingly fast speeds.
The e-bike offers some tremendous brakes too. Obviously, they’re important when riding off-road, and they’ll let you slow down nice and quickly.
All in all, if you want an e-bike designed for off-roading, you probably won’t get much better than this e-bike. It is just that good.
Heybike Explore Speed and Range
The Heybike Explore caps out at 28mph, and you have a range of 70 miles on it. Obviously, that range is only going to come if you are in an ideal situation, and you are traveling on the lowest pedal assist setting. If you are traveling at full throttle off-road, then it is much more likely that you will end up getting about 30-40 miles from the e-bike, which will be fine for the vast majority of people. You can easily bring another battery along with you for those longer rides.
We actually think the 70 miles on the lowest pedal assist setting is pretty decent. This is how most people will be riding this e-bike, and the 70-mile range is higher than what we have seen on comparable off-roading e-bikes.
Heybike Explore Comfort
As we said – this e-bike has been designed to be a comfortable ride. It is an off-road bike. So, you’ll be able to ‘feel’ the riding surface beneath you (you need that to be able to respond to the terrain), it doesn’t necessarily feel uncomfortable to ride. The seat and the front suspension will absorb most of the shocks, so you can easily ride this for hours without feeling any sort of discomfort.
Heybike Explore Extra Features
There’s not much in the way in extra features on this e-bike. You have an LCD screen (which displays key stats, like speed and distance traveled), and LED lights on the front and rear of the bike. Great for riding in the evening.
There is a high carry weight capacity for this e-bike, though. It can hold up to 400 lbs in weight, so could be great if you’re doing a lot of traveling.
Heybike Explore Electric Bike Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Affordable
- Good range
- Best e-bike for off-roading
- Good shock absorption
- High weight capacity
- Fast maximum speed
Cons:
- Not so great for on-road use.
- Might be a bit too difficult to move for lighter people.
- The companion app for the e-bike isn’t great.
Final Thoughts
The Heybike Explore Electric Bike is a great option for those who want a pure off-roading e-bike. While it can handle the on-road commutes just fine, this e-bike is really going to be in its element when you’re blasting through off-road trails. For that, we can’t think of a better e-bike for the price. Highly recommended!
